Puerto Rico is amazing and it will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s where my journey first began. I traveled to Puerto Rico in the spring of 2012 alone, mainly because I couldn’t find anyone else to go with. I knew I wanted to start traveling but I was a little scared to travel out of the country alone. I picked Puerto Rico because it’s a US territory, which means it’s in the US but not in the US at the same time. My trip lasted one week and I had so much fun that I booked another solo trip to Puerto Rico 4 months later. Puerto Rico is the perfect destination for a first time traveler because its easy to find things to do and surprisingly very affordable.
Sightseeing Purto Rico
El Yunque
El Yunque is Puerto Rico’s largest rainforest and the main source of fresh water for the Island. Follow the many trails through the forest, hear the chirping of the koki frog and spend some time swimming in the waterfalls.
Culebra
Culebra is a tiny island off the east coast of Puerto Rico. The island is famous for its white sand beaches and clear waters. You can either do a day trip to the island or camp there for a couple days. Culebra’s city is very small so it’s easy to go out and surround yourself with nature.
Rent a Car and Explore
The west side of Puerto Rico is one that is seldom visited but definitely worth going. Rent a car and drive around the coast and visit some of Puerto Rico’s beautiful lonely beaches. Rincon located on the west side of the island was originally a port town with a history that included the real Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bioluminescence bay
Bioluminescence is the coolest thing I have ever seen. The water literally glows at night, which is creepy at first but so interesting. One place to witness this wonder is Fajardo on the northeast part of the island. It is a must see if you are visiting Puerto Rico and incredibly special because its something that can not be photographed it has to be seen with the naked eye. It’s truly something you need to see to believe

My favorite hotel in Puerto Rico located in the San Juan City Center. Private rooms are anywhere from 35-45 per night which isn’t bad and the views from the top floor are pretty great.
